Dr. Scotty Gibbs was born and raised in Waynesville, North Carolina.
He obtained his Bachelors and Doctorate degrees from North Carolina State University and completed an internship in equine medicine and surgery at the internationally renowned Rood & Riddle hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Prior to returning to North Carolina in 2000, Dr. Gibbs was employed by an international Thoroughbred racing and breeding syndicate with operations in Kentucky and Australia. He was an associate veterinarian at Willowrun Veterinary Hospital, a mixed animal hospital, in Smithfield, North Carolina, prior to his purchase of Hilltop Animal Hospital in 2011. His professional interests include soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, pain management, and anesthesia.
Dr. Gibbs is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and is a past President of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. He is a past member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Horse Council and has served on the boards of several animal welfare groups and other organizations advocating for animal welfare. He is a past member of the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine small animal and equine anesthesia services.
